Adding Streaming tracks

Again, before you add Streaming tracks in Adobe GoLive, be sure to read your QuickTime documentation about preparing movie files for HTTP or RTSP streaming. The QuickTime documentation also contains details on embedding HTML attributes and tags, and using HREF links.

You can add Streaming tracks, resize/position/scale/skew/rotate/layer it just like any other track. In the track's RTSP tab, you can specify the RTSP link to the streaming movie on the server. To be streamed, a movie must be made into a Streaming Movie. (See Exporting movies and tracks for details.) The client movie (the movie you're assembling here) uses the Streaming track to create a reference to the streaming movie on the QuickTime Streaming Server.

To add a Streaming track:

1 With a movie open in the Movie Viewer window, click the Show TimeLine Window button ().

2 Drag the Streaming Track icon from the QuickTime tab () of the Objects palette onto the track list area of the TimeLine Window. This inserts a new Streaming track, which appears in the Tracks list.

3 On the Basic tab of the Streaming Track Inspector, set the properties such as the position and size of the Streaming track. For details on setting properties, see Setting the properties of a video or other visible track.

4 Click the RTSP tab to specify the URL that points to the streaming content.

5 In the Link box, you can use the Point and Shoot button to specify a Web page in your site window, or browse to locate the file you want. You can also use the Adobe GoLive URL Mapping feature, which allows you to store virtual content inside the site window.

6 Click on Get Streaming Properties. This opens the connection to the RTSP URL to obtain important attributes of the streaming movie (dimensions and duration).

Note: If the streaming content is a live broadcast, it has no specific duration. This is also a good test to check if the link is working.

7 You can set the Timeout Interval for the streaming content. The Timeout Interval determines when the attempt to establish a connection to the streaming server should be terminated. This applies only when you are working from within Adobe GoLive, not for the embedded movie in the Web page (when the user's client tries to establish this connection). You can cancel the connection to the RTSP server by pressing any key.
